Children in Scoil Mochua sit Standardised Tests in Reading and Mathematics every year in the classes First to Sixth. The tests are administered by the teachers and testing usually takes place at the end of May. We propose to report the results to you using your child’s Sten Score. Sten Scores are on a scale of 1 to 10. The following table may be of use in interpreting Sten Scores.

7	High Average

4	Low average
1-3	Well below average

Please note: Your child’s performance on the day could be affected if, for example, they are unwell. In addition there is always a margin of error associated with all test scores. In summary, your child’s score on a standardised test is an estimate of their ‘true’ achievement rather than an absolute measure of performance.
